CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say one person is dead following a wreck in which an underage driver was at the wheel.
Police say Tristan Robert Nichols was killed in the wreck that also injured two other people. They say speed and alcohol contributed to the wreck, which occurred early Sunday morning.
The wreck occurred when the car hit a utility pole, shearing the vehicle in two.
The driver is charged with driving while impaired and driving after consuming under 21 years of age. Police say more charges will be filed.
The driver and the other two passengers suffered minor injuries.
Police didn’t give an age or hometown for Nichols.
